Marissa Lyons CPT, MCT, PN

In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety. - Abraham Maslow

Marissa's entrance into the strength and conditioning world started 8 years ago after experiencing some injuries playing ultimate and experiencing a variety of health issues that followed. She decided to use her foundation in psychology and biology to filter through all the overwhelming amount of fitness and nutrition information out there, and to explore alternative ways to help people with their health and fitness. Overtime She has created a system that truly makes people feel better and empowers people to feel good about their bodies. In 2017, she opened Ascent Fitness where you can experience her affirming coaching system with a community of healthy and strong individuals. When shes not at the gym, you can find her outside digging in the dirt, playing ultimate frisbee, or climbing rocks.

Emma Piorier, CYT, MCT

The greatest thing I ever did was lose sight of perfection, forget it existed, stopped trying to gather it with my hands, stopped thikging it was tangible, definable, something you could buy, something you could be. -LE Bowman

Emma is currently a student at the University of Puget Sound where she is interested in race, politics and gender studies and playing Ultimate for UPS Clearcut. She has been playing competitive ultimate frisbee for the last 5 years in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and most recently competed with MPLS Pop. In 2017 she founded the Girl Ultimate Players Initiative (GUPI), a youth organization that works to promote and advocate for girls in sports and pursues various community education and outreach initiatives. She is an accredited yoga and meditation instructor and teaches Vinyasa classes that focus on breathing and alignment but regularly incorporate Ashtanga and Yin aspects of movement. She is excited about teaching and exploring fitness and health with a focus on self-empowerment, body positivity, critical thinking and community.

Mandi Murtaugh, PT, DPT, WCS

"Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can." Arthur Ashe

Mandi is a Physical Therapist and self-proclaimed anatomy nerd. She was so fascinated by the human body during her freshman Anatomy & Physiology class that she knew she needed to find a career where she got to teach about the human body every day, which led her to Physical Therapy. A lifelong runner and yoga practitioner, she hadn’t set foot in a gym for nearly a decade when she decided to give Ascent a try. From the first class she knew this gym was different. She liked it so much she jumped at the chance to coach—and teach even more people about all the incredible things their bodies can do. She is a Montana native who spent time in Portland and Seattle before falling in love with the City of Destiny. When she’s not with patients, at the gym, or on her yoga mat, she can be found quilting, wandering the woods at Point Defiance, or walking the neighborhood with her rescue pup Reba.

Tasheon Chillous, CPT

Tasheon is a Personal Trainer and group fitness instructor who has a passion for helping people find what joyful movement and strength means to them with a weight-inclusive and HAES approach. Up until 2011 she never set foot in a gym but after moving back home after college she started at a local gym. Within a few months she tried almost every single group fitness class offered at her  gym from HIIT classes to Aqua Zumba to Bootcamp. In 2014 after being in the front of her favorite class, Mixxedfit she became certified. Teaching dance fitness deepened her own love for movement but also gave her the opportunity to empower her students to show up to move their body regardless of their ethnicity, size, and skill level. You can still catch her dancing in class but she has shifted her focus to teaching small group classes and individuals. She a proud dog mom and enjoys spending most of her weekends hiking or laying in a hammock.
